Tom Bremner, CRA, co-owner of Accurate (Peel) Appraisals Inc., sent the following message to the Town of Caledon regarding the new, and predominantly dangerous speed limit implemented at the Olde Base Line Rd & McLaughlin Rd interchange:
“Public works has just erected a 80 km sign adjacent to the new steel road shoulder barriers on the steep hill by the golf course on McLaughlin Road.
It is logical to conclude that the simple reason for the new, rather expensive barriers was a direct result of the innumerable rollovers and accidents that have occurred on that hill, i.e School buses, transport vehicles, farm tractors, cars, etc.
Thinking aloud for a moment; would it not be much more prudent to post a 60 Km sign on this section of the road where so many spinouts and rollovers have occurred!
Highway 10, which is a 5 lane provincial road, has a 80 km limit. This excessive local speed limit posted on McLaughlin Road is especially non congruent in regards to it’s proximity to the village proper with all the merging trail links and pedestrian traffic.”
Here, is Doug Beffort’s response to Tom’s plea for reconsideration in the speed limit change:
“Thanks, Tom. I will drive by and have a look-see. It would seem prudent to have the speed as low as possible. It is a Regional Road thus I will wait for Barb to provide some feedback from the Region of Peel.”
