3. Monarch Butterflies – Tis the season! Yes, this might be a shock to some readers, but tis the season of Canada’s most famous butterfly. The Monarch Butterfly can be spotted all over southern Ontario during the summer, yet the Monarch’s life-line is the sticky weed, the milkweed. Once abundant in this area. Yet, now it has drastically dropped in numbers. In a special effort to raise Monarch Butterfly populations, the government of Canada encourages to embrace the milkweed. The only plant the Monarch will lay their eggs to restart the cycle of their never ending journey. So Caledonians, I implore you to start planting for next season’s arrivals. You can be surrounded by beautiful Butterflies all summer long.
