Acts of Kindness!
During these most uncertain of times, do remember that being kind is the noblest of virtues. Presently, there are many amongst us that have been disadvantaged by the effects of the COVID-19 Quarantine. When one loses his or her sense of positivity in the present, it can be refreshing and calming to reference words of individuals who spoke of kindness in the past.
In the wise words of Maya Angelou, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”.
During this winter, when our thoughts turn to sunnier climes, please consider the worlds of Frederick William Faber which emphasize that “a single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions & the roots spring up & make trees” (Faber, Frederick William. Spiritual Conferences. T. Richardson, 1860).
South of the border, there is a viciously polarized election taking place; we sincerely pray that the majority of the electorate recall the words of FDR during a radio address, which reads “[h]uman kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fibre of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough”. (1940).
Finally, now may be the moment in time, to recall that “the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”. (Ghandi, M., n.d.).
Start with your family & friends; you will be far richer from the experience!
