The Baycrest’s Bike for Brain Health event was an incredible experience. Despite the rain, seeing 10,000 riders, along with countless spectators and volunteers, come together to support each other and a great cause was truly inspiring. With options like the 10km, 25km, 50km, and 75km routes, there was something for everyone, making it an inclusive event.
Early registration for next year has already started, and everyone should be thrilled that the registration fee is currently lower, making it easier for more people to participate in the upcoming event. Plus, knowing that the proceeds support programs at Baycrest for prevention, early detection, new clinical trials, and improving care for people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias adds even more meaning to the event.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, I couldn’t help but reflect on how a few hours of cycling in the rain might give a small glimpse into the daily struggles faced by those living with these illnesses. It reinforced the importance of events like this in raising awareness and empathy.
I’m grateful to everyone who supported the event—it truly meant the world to me.
