This unusually wet spring in the eastern 1/3 of North America has created the perfect storm for an unprecedented outbreak of Lyme Disease !
What is Lyme disease ? Lyme is caused by a bacterium called Borrelia Burgdorferi. Which commonly infects small woodland animals, squirrels, mice, chipmunks and other small animals. Like mosquitos or black flies they are looking for Blood hosts to breed.
Who can contract Lyme disease ? Sadly everyone and anybody including your pets.
How can I prevent, Lyme disease ?
1; Avoid moist wooded areas & overgrown grassy habitats.
2 Wear long pants & long sleeved shirts, when in long grassed habitats or woods. tuck your socks in !
3 wear light coloured clothing, making it easier to spot ticks.
4 walk on pathways or trails.
5 Apply insect repellent containing at least 20% DEET, to your skin & clothing.
Just an FYI; Wal-Mart is featuring this week two large Muskol for $11:89 with 23.5% Deet content.
Please keep in mind that more than 50% of the people infected never realized they have been bitten. during the nymphal stage a tick is the size of a period on a email sentence……….
Be wise, dress right , apply sunscreen , then Muskol or a near equivalent. Lyme Disease is crippling; act now to protect yourself & your family.
